A Holloway church celebrated the tenth anniversary of its annual music and comedy evening on Friday.
Around 130 guests attended the annual Speakeasy event at St Luke’s Church on Hillmarton Road.
A comedy duo performed sketches satirising figures such as Jacob Rees-Mogg, Greta Thunberg, and a Brexit MEP. Musical acts included St Luke’s choir and a jazz band.
Guests were kept entertained by songs ridiculing the use of electric scooters as a mode of transport and a collection of poetry about Brad Pitt.
Crispin Holland, the event organiser, said, “We try and have something unusual if we can. It’s all good stuff: we’ve got some really nice singers and a lot of people that take part are professionals.”
He added, “It’s a place for people to come and be friendly, relax, and just enjoy themselves.”
Meg, an attendee of the Speakeasy, told Islington Now: “It’s grown over the years. The musicians are all just brilliant and they have so much talent.”
While the event is not advertised as a fundraiser, Holland said it usually raises £1000 for church funds.
