An online workshop organised by publishers Grrrl Zine and Newington Green Meeting House to create a feminist magazine platforming creative work from the Newington Green community will take place this December. Attendees will contribute writing, art, and other features to the issue.
Grrrl Zine hosts a variety of workshops around the UK and, according to its website, “platforms women and non-binary artists.”
According to Grrrl, their zine making approach is, “an adaptable way of making objects and literature outside of academic or capitalist endeavours.”
Though organisers are seeking to create a publication with a wider feminist message, the Newington Green issue will have a distinctly local slant.
Participants are asked to bring creative writing, drawing, or other work “inspired by or related to the local area in some way.” Attendees will be sent additional materials via post prior to the event free of charge.
The Grrrl Zine x Newington Green workshop will take place online on 11 December at 6pm-8pm. Attendance is free, though places are limited, and the event is described on the website as “accessible and appropriate for all ages and skill sets; all you need is a voice, and something to say.”
