Cousins Elite crush Division One Hawks
Islington’s new talent Cousins Elite played six slick frames to defeat opponents King’s Cross Hawks 5-1 in the quarter finals of the Liam Tarrant Cup.

After winning four frames of singles and rushing into a 4-0 lead there was a minor upset when Scott Dean and Adam Gad conceded the first frame of doubles, giving the Hawks a sorely needed foothold.
However Levi Malcolm and Jed Wardley stopped the Hawks dead in the second frame of doubles with a startling comeback from five balls down.
Elite opened by pitting Levi Malcolm against the Hawks’ renowned Mark Piercey. Malcolm’s nerve held throughout, allowing Piercey’s errors to seep in and net a close win in the first frame.
Jed Wardley took a closely fought second frame, calmly clinching it after an unforced error from his opponent. Peter Berrie extended the lead to 3-0 with a strong performance of his own.
Ben Spurling played the fourth singles frame, prevailing in a nailbiting finish. In a blow to the Hawks’ confidence their man’s shot fell short heartbreakingly close to the pocket leaving an easy pot for Spurling.
Scott Dean and Adam Gad lost out by inches in the fifth frame after a measured performance, leaving the pressure on Malcolm and Wardley to finish the match in the doubles and prevent the resurgent Hawks from causing an upset.
The duo dutifully delivered, finishing the game with style despite a strong start from the Hawks. A gentlemanly handshake with their bested rivals marked the end of the competition and sees the Cousins Elite safely through to the semi finals of the Liam Tarrant Cup.
Sinan Yuce, owner of the victor’s home venue – Cousins Professional Snooker and Pool Club, explained that “The reason they are winning is their spirit, their sense of respect and their sense of togetherness.
“We might have just joined the league but we win because of the strength of the bond between each player”.
