Arsenal star Per Mertesacker packed out a local pub as fans flocked to his book signing last week.
The former Arsenal captain, and current youth team manager was signing copies of his
autobiography, BFG: Big Friendly German, and taking photos with supporters, at The Tollington Arms on Hornsey Road.
Many fans queued for more than an hour and a half before doors opened to the signing; some wearing Mertesacker football shirts as they eagerly awaited the star’s arrival.
One supporter explained the affection fans had for Mertesacker. “He’s such a well-conducted footballer,” she said, praising his “professionalism” and “commitment to the club.”
Despite having hosted numerous celebrity book signing for the likes of Alan Smith and Ian Wright, pub landlord, Martin Whelan, was particularly enthusiastic about Mertesacker’s visit, telling Islington Now, “it’s not every day you’ll meet a World Cup Winner.” After two hours, the signing came to a close.
