Islington has some of London’s most eco-friendly businesses, according to the first green map of London launched this week.
Green London, unveiled by Clerkwenwell-based online travel site GreenTraveller.co.uk to coincide with Climate Week 2011, handpicks some of the most eco-friendly restaurants, hotels and attractions in the capital.
Islington venues feature heavily on the list with the Duke of Cambridge, on St Peter’s Street being praised for being the only certified organic pub in the world.
Geetie Singh, Managing Director of Sloeberry Trading Ltd which operates the Duke of Cambridge Organic Pub, said: “I’m delighted to see this green map of London, may there be more and larger ones to come.
“If we don’t start seriously considering the impact business has on the environment and society then god help us all!”
The interactive map also includes The Zetter, a boutique hotel on St John’s Square which has its own fresh water spring, and Born, a baby store on Church Street in Stoke Newington which specialises in natural baby clothing.
Jason Catifleoglou, director of The Zetter Group, said: “I am delighted that The Zetter Hotel has been recognised once again as one of the environmentally conscious hotels in London. This is another testament to our commitment in reducing the impact we have as a business on our planet – an integral part of running any business today which requires commitment and will!”
GreenTraveller.co.uk founder Richard Hammond said: “We found that there are a lot of business that are going green in the borough so our task was quite easy in Islington.”
“We’ve gone for a variety of business and geographical locations to show green is in everything, in terms of where you sleep, where you shop where you eat.”
