Arsenal defender Johan Djourou has given Arsene Wenger a much-needed boost after announcing he may be back playing within weeks.
Djourou, who has made 31 appearances for the Gunners this season, appeared to suffer a dislocated shoulder in the weekend’s FA Cup defeat to Manchester United, with Wenger saying he would be out for the rest of the season.
But the Swiss international believes his shoulder injury is not as bad as initially feared and hopes to be back before the end of the month, and could feature in Arsenal’s Premier League match against Blackburn on April 2. Djourou is due to get the results of his scan today and he believes they will show that he has not broken any bones.
Djourou’s return would be a major boost to the Gunners’ faltering title challenge, with Laurent Koscielny and Sebastian Squillaci currently the clubs only fit centre-backs. Arsenal are currently three points behind Manchester United with a game in hand.
