Members of the Green Party, which held a seat on the council until the last election, are claiming the council budget was decided illegally and behind closed doors. Emma Dixon, Green candidate for the Islington North seat in the last election, said: “There would be arguable grounds for a judicial review of the Islington council budget on the basis that there was no power for the council to sit in private in this way.”

Two weeks ago heckling protesters forced the council to pass its annual budget in private.
