School children flocked to Emirates Stadium last week for a charity fun run to raise money for their school.
More than 180 teachers and children, aged 5-11, ran a 2km route around Arsenal’s stadium on Friday afternoon hoping to raise a target of £10,000 for St John’s Highbury Vale school.
More than £7,000 has been raised so far, all of which will go towards areas that are not “covered by standard school funding”, such as “subsidising school trips, … buying art supplies, computers, music lessons and more”, according to organisers.
“We can walk it, dance it or jump it,” said Sophie Walter, head of the school’s Parent-Teacher Association. “[It’s] a positive way to get kids into sports”, she added.
Stadium staff helped parents and teachers to organise the event which was sponsored by local businesses, who collectively contributed £1,500.
One sponsor, Highbury Vintners, said, “we always like to contribute to local schools in any way we can and show our support.”
