The most expensive house for sale in Islington has gone under offer less than a month after going on the market.
The property, which spreads over five floors and overlooks Highbury Fields, is expected to sell for almost £6m.
The sale of the swish six-bedroom townhouse is being handled by upmarket Savills. Paul Williams, the estate agent handling the property, confirmed an offer has been made on the house from a family of long-term Londoners already living in the area.
Mr Williams said the offer “was approaching the asking price” of £5.95m, and that the new owners could move into the Georgian house within six weeks.
“The Islington market is largely domestic,” said Williams. He added that it was different from areas such as Mayfair, in that it did not attract many foreign buyers.
While there tend to be a handful of houses hovering between the £2m to £3m mark in the borough, a property priced at nearly £6m is more unusual. They come onto the market just a few times a year.
“These big houses used to stay in families, but not any more,” said Williams, adding they were worth too much money. Highbury Fields was, he acknowledged, “a very aspirational area to live in”.
