Nothing is better than a fresh croissant with coffee in the morning or a delicious fruit tart as an after work treat. Islington has some of the best pastry shops that London has to offer. Here are Islington Now’s favourites:

Popham’s Bakery – Clerkenwell

Step away from your traditional pains au chocolat and all-butter croissants and embrace pastries with exciting, avant-garde twists. Pophams’s creative menu varies from a bacon and maple syrup swirl to a rosemary and sea salt twist, to a yoghurt custard, rhubarb and lemon thyme shortbread – you’re guaranteed to find something you like. Popham’s is located at 19 Prebend Street.

Benita Café – Highbury

The perfect destination for custard lovers. Indulge in big, custard-filled pretzels, pains au crème and custard twists to your heart’s content at Benita Café. And there’s plenty of choice if you favour the more familiar combinations – their pain au chocolat won’t disappoint! Find Benita Café at 238 Upper Street.

Romeo’s sugar free bakery

London’s first refined-sugar-free bakery changes how we think about tasty treats. Not only can you avoid refined sugar without sacrificing enjoyment, but there are options available for the gluten-free, vegan and keto eaters among us. Also on Upper Street, find Romeo’s at number 178.
