Monochrome models in fur coats and angular dresses marched through woodland in Alexander McQueen’s Women’s Ready to Wear Autumn/Winter (A/W) 2014 collection at the Fashion Weeks of New York, London, Paris, and Madrid.
Winter clothing couldn’t be further from our thoughts following the recent sunshine and the scent of spring, but the world of fashion is six months ahead.
According to its show notes, the Islington-based fashion house’s A/W collection was inspired by “floral and nocturnal fauna, ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and wild romance”.
Four years on from the death of McQueen, and with Sarah Burton now at the helm of the company, her influence on the brand is growing.
Burton has kept the McQueen hallmarks of tailoring and theatricality – this year’s catwalk was complete with moss to evoke a fairy-tale woodland. However, she has also imbued the designs with femininity, with elegance and lace providing a counter-balance to the fur coats.
Burton’s influence has been recognised – Vogue referred to the collection as “one of Sarah Burton’s strongest collections yet”, rather than the collection of Alexander McQueen.
