Festive cheer is building in Wilton Square as a residents’ ‘Advent Windows’ scheme is expected to be more popular than ever.
Creative Christmas decorations will adorn the windows of volunteers on Wilton Square, Wilton Villas, Baring Court, and some of Baring Street, throughout Advent.
It’s the third year residents have come together to run this scheme. Lindy Dumas, of Wilton Square, said “it’s really gathered momentum” since then. In the first year they did it, “people were doing two windows because it was a new idea.”
Lindy added: “In the last year, we’ve had five new people in the square, who all seem very keen to get involved and do things.”
“People do all sorts of things” for their decorations, Lindy said. Last year, Lindy “wrapped Brussel sprouts around a star, and put loads of glitter on them, and had them hanging with lights and everything in the window.
“Somebody over in Wilton Villas did the most incredible scene that he cut out, silhouettes, Santa flying across the sky, I mean really beautifully artistic. It’s a real mishmash of things.”
The displays have also spread to Baring Court, and attract visitors from neighbouring Arlington.
This scheme is one of a number of events in the area’s festive calendar. The Friends of Wilton Square, the local residents’ association, will also host their biannual ‘Big Tidy Up’ of the square’s garden on 2nd December, followed by mince pies, mulled wine, and installation of lights in the trees.
