Aid appeal: The Drapers Arm

Scenes of devastation following a storm in the Philippines prompted a Barnsbury landlord to donate an entire night’s takings to the aid appeal.

Typhoon Haiyan, the strongest ever storm to hit land, swept across the country last Friday leaving hundreds of thousands of people without access to basic necessities.

On Monday afternoon Nick Gibson, landlord of The Drapers Arms, tweeted an appeal to nearly 21,000 Twitter followers.

“You’ve made it half way through the Monday in mid-November, tough day huh? Not as tough for some… treat yourself, come here tonight & we will give 50% of your total spend to relief efforts in the Philippines.”

After a quieter night than usual, he decided to donate the entire night’s £1,000 takings to the victims.

“I just like as a community pub to give something back,” Gibson said.

  1. What I really love about the wonderful people you showcase on this blog is the effort they make to style and present themselves to the world at large. It makes you feel really good to see and read about these stunning women (and men!). I live in NYC and much of the time, I am dismayed at the sloppiness and inappropriate dress of many. Thank you!

  3. Giusto Antulio!!! E pensare che si stanno “distruggendo” da soli. Noi atei, liberi pensatori ce ne stiamo ad aspettare senza aver mosso un dito.E chi lo avrebbe detto!!!

  4. People are crazy high for Kaepernick. He had a good game against Chicago, who weren’t prepared for him at all, and fairly average game against the Saints. Much as I was never a fan of Alex Smith, I expect him back in there at some point this season. He’s played very well this year and things will get a lot tougher for Kaepernick.VA:F [1.9.21_1169](from 0 votes)

  5. It is true what you say, but this applies only for if the woman got divorsed or if she’s a widow. If the woman is a virgin (getting married for the first time) then she will need the consent of her guardian. Hadith: “It is the saying of Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam), ‘Listen! Women should be married off only by their (Shar’ee) guardians (Wali) and their Marriage should take place only with suitable matches.’ (Akfaa).’ (Daaraqutni and Bayhaqi)”VA:F [1.9.20_1166]

  6. No worries here, friend. 🙂 I have no power and am likely not to get any of it. The only issue I have with the whole premise is that some degree of power is necessary, since most people are followers and not leaders. It’s when power becomes absolute, as the old saying goes, then problems transpire.
