A teenager who encouraged her accomplice to “stab him, stab him” during knifepoint robbery has been jailed for almost four years.
Natsena Quatome-Takab, 18, from the Packington Estate, Islington was imprisoned for 30 months for her part in the robbery on Regent’s Canal towpath, near Danbury Street, and a further 12 months for possession of a knife - even though she was not holding the three inch blade used in the robbery.
Ms Quatome-Takab and a male, whose identity she has refused to disclose, carried out the robbery in November 2009. They approached a 28-year-old man and threatened him with a knife, taking his £130 Nokia mobile phone. The man ran away as Quatome-Takab encouraged her accomplice to “stab him”.
She was arrested after officers recognised her from the CCTV of the robbers walking away from the crime scene.
DC Kevin Johansen, of Islington’s Robbery Squad said: “Once she owned up to the fact that it was her on the CCTV, it was all downhill for Natsena.
“Towards the end of 2009 and start of 2010, there was a spate of robberies in the Regent’s Canal area, which thankfully now seem to have stopped. I would like to warn Natsena’s associates that if you commit knife point robbery, you can expect to receive a long prison sentence if you are caught.”
Judge Hillen, who presided over the case, said he would have given Quatome-Takab the maximum sentence had she been the one holding the knife. He also recommended that she be deported.
