Film Review: Lesbian Vampire Failures

Review: Lesbian Vampire Killers Cert 15

Rating: 1/5

British comedy is littered with small screen hopefuls who never succeeded in the world of film. With the release today of Lesbian Vampire Killers, James Corden and Matthew Horne will join their ranks.

The BAFTA-winning duo play best friends Jimmy Maclaren (Horne) and Fletch (Corden) who drunkenly decide to escape their women troubles with a weekend in the village of Cragwich. There they encounter a van-load of scantily-clad Scandinavian girls and a hoard of lesbian vampires intent on resurrecting their queen Carmilla.

Lesbian Vampire Killers is a huge disappointment. The script combines tired formulae and tasteless jokes to create comedy of the lowest common denominator. Corden and Horne give bland performances and director Phil Claydon’s parody of the horror genre does little to salvage matters.

Most of the film revolves around ogling semi-naked ladies. The lustful vampiresses are like characters in a soft-porn pantomime while the love interest Lotte (MyAnna Buring) provides the obligatory blonde virgin.

It is hardly surprising to learn that the film started life as a challenge to writers Stewart Williams and Paul Hupfield to come up with the stupidest and most commercial title possible for a film. Though what gave them the idea to begin work on a sequel - Bride of LVK - is hard to imagine.

Lesbian Vampire Killers can be seen at Vue Cinema, in Angel

  1. Difficult to see why this is categorised as “Arsenal” unless the Ladies team are implicated. Arsene did not see anybody spit so a firther inquiry is unnecessary.
